Check out the full review <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sqlhammer.com\/accelerating-the-restore-process-apexsql-restore-product-review\/\">here<\/a> if you missed it.\u00a0Just last month (Aug 12th), ApexSQL released the newest version of ApexSQL Restore. This new version includes expanded functionality as a direct result of the feedback that they received from the community and my review. I always respect an organization that realizes the importance of reaching out to their customers and taking feedback to heart. So now I\u2019d like to talk about their new features and how these changes relate to points that I addressed in my\u00a0<em>cons<\/em> section of the original review.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sqlhammer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/apexsql-restore-new-features.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sqlhammer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/apexsql-restore-new-features.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Feedback feature<\/h2>\n<p>Above are the three newest features released for ApexSQL Restore. As you may notice, they have included the ability to restore remote backups on to your local SQL Server machine. This was a con that I pointed out in my original review where I expressed a concern with the space usage and time-to-recovery when restoring backup files\u00a0stored on a remote file share. The process of attaching remote files is identical to the process of attaching a local file with one exception. You will have to give your Windows credentials to reach the share to\u00a0select the backup files.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sqlhammer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/apexsql-restore-unc-path.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sqlhammer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/apexsql-restore-unc-path.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While this may seem like a simple change, I was able to use this product to restore a 2 TB database, stored on a backup NAS, in less than a minute. This enabled me to immediately extract data from the backup without the need for local disk space to store the database or backup files.<\/p>\n<h2>New features<\/h2>\n<p>Next we have new features. As you would expect, ApexSQL has updated the software to fully support SQL Server 2014. In addition, you can now restore to a specific point-in-time, very similar to how you would use the timeline feature in SQL Server Management Studio\u2019s restore database wizard. ApexSQL Restore overall is very simple to use and very intuitive. With that being said, you can see below that the timeline interface is self-explanatory so I won\u2019t use up anymore of your time with words.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sqlhammer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/apexsql-restore-point-in-time.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sqlhammer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/apexsql-restore-point-in-time.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Wrap-up<\/h2>\n<p>In conclusion, I believe that this newest release of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apexsql.com\/sql_tools_restore.aspx\">ApexSQL Restore<\/a>\u00a0is awesome.
